I had some engines and carb's dyno'd recently. Whilst there I had a good conversation with the owner of the dyno. I'm not going to say which one but it's used by several engine builders. He has a customer who paid massive money for four ex front running super 1 Iame cadet engines, used by one of the biggest names who's moved to mini-max. He also brought a five engine box-stock to use as a hack/practice motor, after some hours and a couple or rebuilds, number 5 sit right in the centre on the dyno I.e. 2 big money motors very slightly above, 2 very slightly below. Not much between all 5. Basically don't pay more than "new" out of the box price until you know where karting is going for you and even then, most "super 1" engines just means they had the money to enter super 1.
