Super 1 was offering controlled engines drawn by lot for around 5k for the season... and not enough signed up for that. They will have more chance of it working in China, where one phone call from the right person will ensure grids of 30 in every class paid for if necessary by the government...... No doubt refunds will be sought...... but after Brooklands in 2003.......?
It was a good concept with some nice initiatives (driver names outside the awnings looked great in photos) but it was well overpriced, and from what's being said about engines sat for months untouched, assuming that is correct, the logistics were mismanaged, which ultimately has proven to be its downfall.
Even if an attempt to run something at Silverstone does happen, who would go now? The answer is....some will.... but this is likely to be the end. I for one was amazed anyone signed up and paid the amount of money they did for it.... but clearly not everyone paid, because if they had, it would still be going. The financials stand up comfortably at 2015 prices if everyone had paid.... I said in a previous posting I could easily run a series, televise it and make a decent return assuming everyone paid what was quoted, assuming there were 20 entries. Clearly, not everyone paid, despite those that did insisting on this forum that everyone was. Once you are paying, and you find out that others are being shipped in to beat you.... for free....or even at a rate less than you would be paying....in order to make up the grids..... it's amazing to me it went ahead at all this year.
