I bought my lad a neck brace but he didn't like it and I did not make him wear it. We have seen some very nasty looking accidents with youngsters taken to A&E (sometimes by the helicopter service). One of the worst was at Shennington where, at the end of the straight, a cadet kart did a full forward flip landing on the lad's head. No neck brace and no damage - other than to the helmet. Wer have seen a few broken collar bones where drivers have worn a neck brace and maybe that contributed to the damage but it is impossible to know what would have happened without one. I would never advise anyone not to wear a neck brace but also would not advise them to wear one. I have to agree with Ian that if there was sufficient evidence that these added to safety then the MSA would make everyone wear them - I believe this happened in motocross.
