There are two main routes; pouring an ethanol-proof resin into the tank as a liner; using a sloshing liner (liquid rubber);
If the tank has been used for oil-mix fuel then you may have a problem in sealing the tank, because the GRP may already have absorbed some oil, making sealing difficult
eg:"this sealant cannot be used in fibreglass tanks that have had either two-stroke or diesel fuel in them, as the fibreglass becomes impregnated with the oil and cannot be cleaned thoroughly. when sealing a motorcycle fibreglass tank care must be taken when sealing the filler neck area, as it has been found that when the vehicle is in use fuel can get between the sealant and the fibreglass where the sealant stops. therefore we do not recommend this product for use in fibreglass tanks. To check whether the tank has had leaks, pressurise the tank with air; about 8psi should be enough; and use soapy water on the outside to find any leaks.
Remaking the tank should not be difficult or expensive, it is a beginner's exercise on many GRP courses, but getting the authentic hardware may be more difficult. However it will take time to get a good finish.
