Chris - when you talk about a price that `normal people' can afford, what sort of income/family do you consider `normal'? Kids who do karting are very fortunate - they either have parents with above average incomes and/or making sacrifices elsewhere. Many of these kids will get to a point where their talent exceeds what their parents can afford and then they either stay in club racing or quit. To move from cadet karting through the various car stages to a trial with an F1 team is likely to cost about £10 million and then you may need to take at least that to the team to secure a seat. Very few F1 teams could afford to sponsor many drivers through those stages so unfortunately your kid needs talent and money.
