When i first came on here I thought my son was the Bees Knees (I still do) but pushed him too hard in the early days.
I entered him into NKF and Pfi and took every opportunity to get his bum in the seat and we travelled the country racing.
His "home" track was (And still is) PFi and he was as keen as mustard.
He started at the back as a novice and was happy (as I was) when he didnt finish last in his 1st race.
After he came off his novice plates he was in the mix with all the "big money" boys and girls.
After being taken out at PFi a couple of times and once at Larkhall I started asking him what he was playing at? surely he shouldnt be getting caught up in all that nonsence, why was he taking the wrong lines etc
What I couldnt see was that he felt pressured by me to perform well and it was having the opposite effect.
We have taken a step back this year and are doing an IKR championship (notice i said back - not down) which he is currently leading.
We have gone back to having fun and are both enjoying our karting again.
We are ready to move class and have opted for JTKM so the learing curve begins again but without the parental pressure
I think the point I am trying to make is that for anybody entering the sport it is exactly that, a sport.
Dont make the same mistakes i made you will only go backwards. Just enjoy it and let little Johny or Jenny have fun. Get the mix right and you will have a ball
