My Son is in Cadets and has been racing a few years. His pace is good with him often being at or near the front runners. However he has yet to get a podium because when it comes to races, he struggles to overtake and often repeatedly makes the same error over and over, letting others past him. In general he seems incapable of looking ahead and planning his overtaking. Instead he either sits on someone's bumper but then, accelerating out of a corner quicker than them, bumps them, slowing himself down and letting others through. Or he will try the same overtake move again and again despite it never working !
My question is, can my son learn to look further ahead and plan his moves? How can I best help him do this? Is it just more races against tougher opponents or are there some other things that would help develop this ability?
