Hi guys/girls.
As Dave says it's not nice to Have to pit a 'D' plate on the back of kart...me & Dave has had this discussion fir many years since I was one if the first to be granted a Msa licence to compete in Kart Racing...AND to be granted an MSA Kart licence you have to Go to MSA head quarters & assessed by the medical panel if you are fit enough to race!...The one & only Question they ask is " if you were involved in an accident how would you can get out of Kart?? The Answer they want to Hear was.."That I could get out of kart without any assistant &.And move on my back side to safety!...As I can & get in & out with out assistance!!!
WHY a 'D' & on the back? Ok fair point Russ...you say its for the marshals/paramedics? That's why the Msa wants it on kart...I don't classified my self as Disabled...I'm only enable to walk that All.
Point 1)If involved in an accident the marshals will 'NOT' leave their post to assist you so there you go its not for them bcs the have to stay at their post to flag!!
And paramedics would only come into it if you were injured & couldn't get out of kart same as any other Driver!!
My opinion..." There should be a spare floating marshal available at every circuit to assist & observe if any driver is in need of a hand if in Danger to other kart drivers on track"
Bcs drivers in tkm with direct drive needs a hand to push & get their kart started...especially in junior tkm bcs some ate not strong enough to push or lift kart out of Danger to others & Same goes to Mini max as "witnessed last year a lad couldn't lift the kart to get it out of Dangerous place on side of circuit.
That WHY I have 1 or 2 guys out on circuit(same as the cadets) incase you need assistance!! And I've been lucky to only needed a Hand a few times in 10 years of competing!
Point 2) WHY the letter 'D'? & on the back of kart? If unlucky to be involve in a incident & the back of kart is NOT visible(say backed into tyre wall) How are the Marshals etc going to see you have a "Disability"etc??
My personal opinion would be Simple..
"Just a Fluorescent Yellow back race No plate" So Everyone then can see from Any Side of kart that Ur a "enabled" drive"
A lot easier to See & Safer for the pilot & other competitors..AND ...No 'D' on back of kart to make you Feel Like Ur Different... & Bcs at mo Ur competitors can see when racing behind you knowing Ur a "Enabled Driver" & Some Don't want to try get passed if Not a clear opportunity incase they bin you!! Or use it as an opportunity to bin you off!...as I have been on the end of a few times" MoreS1 drivers(Not All)" & last year lost a Championship bcs of this..As marshal at the time was on mobile phone texting"Not doing what he is there for" & I know they Do it for peanuts & we couldn't race without them & I have the up most Respect them! And the Clerk of the corse Not Looking bcs having a cup of tes & Chatting in the pits!!!
Rant over lol.
End of the day I don't really care bcs ..I've met Amassing people... been able to race & been lucky to win races & few championships along the way....And most of All its Been Fun & its puts a massive SMILE on my face at end of the day of racing & that what racing should be All about.
Best regards...enjoy & safe driving!
Brian.
