A police friend of mine investigating a large no.of Moto Cross bikes and quads, which were recovered (due for "export" ) has suggested to me,we may all sadly in motorsport be giving away too much personal info about what we have. Social meedia is a great tool however we are all guilty of getting on it about our racing etc.We also tell the "world" when we are not going to be at home "who's racing here, when are you getting there, are you staying all weekend?" )etc modern thieves are clever . Another observation he made is we advertise all over our trailers, race vans and trucks what we are about. Some European thieves operating in the UK are building palaces back home out of what they are up to here. His suggestion is remove the signwriting and pictures off your vehicles and trailers then what's inside becomes anonymous, check your mirrors for the same,it will usually be a plain van following you for long distances and hanging about your neighborhood,. When you get home put your gear away immediately don't leave it outside on view, and when working on your gear the try not to "pose" on the drive. Sad state of affairs but sadly thats the way it is here now,and as things get tighter some people will nick anything. Mark your gear secretly,we, not the Police have recovered 2 stolen trailers by just keeping an eye out, they all look the same, but be aware of specifics and take lots of pics of I.D. Chassis /engine nos.and don't always blame the travellers, they are used when in your area by the local SCALLIES as a cover. Look a bit closer to home,a local karter had his nicked a couple of years ago,its just appeared at a kart shop in need of repair as the Dickheads who had bought it had broken it racing around on an industrial estate at weekends and nightime. Owner waiting to hopefully be re-united.
