I've just bought a set of OTK MXC wheels from a 'James' in Kent. The ad is currently still live on the market place. These cost £160 and this was paid via bank transfer to his account after paypal blocked my payment.
At first contact was good and he was replying to texts and emailing back. He said he sent the items on Wednesday (25th) Saturday rolled around and still no wheels. Also now there is no contact. Not replying to texts or phone calls.
I was concerned but not sure of fraud until this morning. Firstly there are six new ads this morning with the same phone number but a new name and location 'Matt' in 'Scotland' One of which is for a set of MXC wheels for £175.
I've also done some investigation into his phone number and its been used on karting1 by 'karting_lad35' on a classified ad who is shown as being in Kent. It is also coming up on searches on Google for Matt Ripley Racing who I know from investigation has raced previous ad Lydd, Bayford Meadows and Buckmore Park.
All very worrying. I've reported this all to the 'action fraud online' who agreed it is almost certainly fraud and are taking the necessary actions to resolve it.
I just don't want anyone else to be caught out by this and hopefully the required action will lead to this being resolved quickly. If anyone has any info on how to pursue fraudsters in a better way please advise. I fear I may not get my money back.
