Ridiculous, and it would seem to be as biased and contrary demand as any that the "old boy network in the MSA and few influential money men in karting" would seem to be capable.

Let's start by understanding the role of karting.

It is not to discover the proper young talent for the future. That sort of thinking is at the heart of the problem you perceive.

The role of karting is to be a sport, something that the majority do for fun and understanding their own opportunities and limitations. Money and ways of spending it are just one of those limitations or opportunities.

Getting excited that others have better skills in this department is just as silly as complaining that other people are better drivers.

If one cannot compete at the top of the most expensive levels of the sport, then compete at the top of the levels you can. Don't complain that these other levels aren't 'as talented', because you have just argued that they aren't more talented, just richer. There are other national competitions, and if it was obvious that they were a rich source of talent, then the talent scouts would look there if they needed to.

The truth is that there are only a handful of racing jobs every year and the scouts can find their needs from a very limited pool and their criteria do not stop at driving talent. If you don't have the right attitude, if you cannot win sponsorship, if you cannot withstand the financial knockbacks if things go wrong, then there are enough other competitors who can and these skills are worth more than sheer driving talent.

As for the latter, it is obvious that there is a lottery right they way through motorsport. Is Vettel at Red Bull because he is an outstanding talent or is his apparent talent due in some measure to an outstanding car?

Enough world champions have gone from hero to zero not through any lack of their own talent (Alonso, arguably the best driver in F1 today, isn't winning the championship) but because of circumstance to show that motorsport isn't 'fair'

There is no need for pooled motors or buy back at the club level because the majority of club drivers are racing for fun, don't see the point in 'cheating'(except for driving on the kerbs) and while winning is nice, can accept that the best they can do is to beat their nearest rivals.

And pretending otherwise is not a lesson that the kids need to know. They are good enough themselves at finding excuses for not winning at any level. Even the old kids.

Yes,I was comprehensively beaten by Biland Racer at the last Clay Meeting, but only because he's 30 to 40 years younger than I am. It just isn't fair.

But I had one hell of a race with the national number 1, so what if he had made the wrong choice of tyres and gearing. He might think that's not fair either.

If you aren't having fun, then adjust your reality!
