"You could also scrap the national series and have the championship based on club championships with the winners or top 2/3 from each club going into a final"
There is already a national championship based on regional club racing in the NKRA. There are some clubs violently opposed to it.
One of the common reasons one hears is that it doesn't have the entries of events like Super One, though one wonders at the drivers who complain about spending £1000 a weekend to come 45th out of 47 because they are outclassed.(not a comment on Danlee, but a father I met at another track). Surely it is better, while one is a club level driver to compete in club level championships and have events like SuperOne as the prestige series they claim to be, ie for people who regularly arrive on the podium at club level?
As the MSA White Paper showed, on of the aims is to make British championships more prestigious and that means using the 'best and fastest' equipment, in this case judged to be KFJ. There is an implied benefit there too. As a series becomes more prestigious, then sponsors will be willing to underwrite the competitors. For example, Buckmore proudly displays a plaque stating that they gave Lewis Hamilton free practice at the track in recognition of his promise during his days before McLaren made such contributions insignificant.
Sponsors will only sponsor if they have an involvement or see an advantage to themselves. Limiting a championship to those who pass the prestige driver test, which I agree is not defined solely by money, increases the significance and advantage to sponsors.
