The CRG cermic disc was made to reduce weight but at a cost !
The manufacturers of the Dura*** brake disc had initial problems with the disc shattering into small pieces and now, instead of shattering they break up which means the disc does not explode into small pieces anymore, it just breaks up (brake failure) or cracks severely.
The pads that go with the ceramic disc are not cheap either so a new ceramic disc and 1 set of pads will set you back £400 - £500 or more?
For all of you that use a CRG / Zanardi / Marenello / FK / Lewis Hamilton / Energy = all CRG based karts please visit http://www.frixa.org/category/news
Just please just read this article OK, there are photographs, test results for you to soak up, also there is a ven05 disc displayed, sitting on the weighing scales, so you can see the weight.......under 1 Kg, virtually the same weight as the ceramic.
Zanardi (Chiesa Corse Italy - factory team with Dino Chiesa) have tested and approved this brake disc and the pads, Marenello Italy is calling for this rotor and pads too, it is 65% cheaper and out performed both the CRG ceramic and steel rotor.
There were karts running at Florida Winter Tour (last meeting @ Homestead circuit).............the full report is on the website.
Marenello UK (Denis Gorman is and has been running the disc and using the pads last season) Protrain (FK) the same, Marenello Scotland and Marenello Germany too.
It is not a homolgated disc yet but there are MANY race series (Rotax etc) you can use the new disc / pads in.
The Florida Winter Tour by the way - 35 Degree C track temp .....(Homestead circuit - last race) ..........we kept cool !!!
