You also have to consider the quality of the grid as well as the size of it.
The KGP grid consisted mainly of drivers who compete in S1 so it would have made a good race.
Many grids quickly break down into a series of races with maybe 6-10 going for the podium spots, then a mid pack race and finally the newer/slower drivers.
Unless you give a class the chance to race then grid numbers will not increase.
