Had an email from a guy expressing interest in an item I advertised in the Marketplace. Sounded genuine at first and asked sensible questions and wanted to arrange to come and see the item. Then emailed to say he was too busy at work but wanted to buy it for a clients - payment to be by cheque and delivery upon clearance. Next email said the cheque would be for £2150.00 more than the selling price to cover his commission and shipping! Now we know it is an attempted scam but decided to play along. Cheque arrives and turns out to be one from Crown Paints Limited drawn on Natwest Bank in Manchester. Now, I could understand if the cheque was for a private account that they may think people woulod fall for this. BUT - a cheque from a fairly large company issued without an invoice and for excess funds to be paid to someone else!!! Can people really be stupid enough to fall for this? This is the email address the guy used - he said his name is Michael Orthon. J. Horthon" <m_orthon107@yahoo.co.uk
The finance guy at crown paints said they have had quite a few of these over the last few weeks.
