I honestly don’t see the problem that everyone is getting upset about before we've even tried anything... sorry. I'm a Comer Dad who the end of next year will be moving up as we’re out of age having only been in it the last 6 months. Our choice to run Comer rather than Honda.
Everyone on the grid will still be the same weight. My son wouldn’t win ballasted to 99KG, he won’t win ballasted to 103 KG. The results won’t change more than 5% as a result of heavier kids being less disadvantaged. I don't believe there'll be any safety issues with 4% heavier karts, only bad backs for parents !
The Honda grid will be exactly the same scenario with their changes.
The bigger picture is people go to Honda (as I understand it) as they don’t want the hassle of 2 strokes and the Tryton problems. I get that. And you still can. But if you now have a really good user friendly engine, the IAME, which doesn't have many of the problems associated with the Comer then why wouldn’t you run/consider it ? There will be a little bit of advantage with getting IAME carb settings 100% spot on, (as with Comer) but as you can’t change them mid race it would benefit most people I think. If we weren’t out of it in 12 months I’d already have the IAME motor. And you can’t tell me it’s only good Comer motors that cost a few £1000 as suggested, try buying a race winning Honda and see how much it is. AND … Hondas will suffer a much much lower drop in value than Comers so thank your stars Honda parents.
Our W60’s will have lost at least 50% of their value by the time I try to sell them next year.
It IS progress and I think in 12-18 months you’ll see this change is a good/inevitable thing and Cadet classes will only be stronger or weaker due to the financial climate, not the MSA’s recent decision.
Like it or not, IAME is MSA’s preferred route, best we all adapt as petition or not there’s not a chance they’ll change it before the 3 months test.
I believe the restrictor is the easy bit, anyone with an engineering brain will know how easy it is to mass produce a CNC’d plate. Look at TKM etc., in fact TKM would be the obvious supplier for a quick turnaround & keep the money in the karting industry. But yes, it will be tight.
This viewpoint is purely technical, I’ve conveniently ignored the information about this amendment being on safety/speed grounds when as rightly said the kid can then get in a Minimax & scare himself stupid !
