In order to provide some extra interest within the television programmes and incentive for teams in the 2013 Rotax series, The TV Production team will be sponsoring a Team Championship.
In order that each team has an equal chance of success, the following rules will apply:
Each team must nominate (by 31st March 2013, in advance of the season starting) six drivers ONLY to compete and score points for the team during the season. The drivers must be racing in the Minimax, Jnr Rotax or Senior Rotax classes ONLY. (Rotax 177 does not have a full grid generally, these classes tend to).
Teams can decide how many drivers they nominate in each class up to a maximum of four in the one class. This can be either two in each or more in one than the other, with the only stipulation that EACH CLASS MUST FEATURE at least one driver. Drivers cannot be changed once nominated after the season starts, save for ONE transfer during the season (one out, one in). The transfer window will be open up until the start of round 4, and close at the end of round 4. No changes can be made after this time. In the event some smaller teams only have 4/5 drivers at the start of the season, additional drivers can be recruited at any time up to the maximum number of 6.
Drivers' points from the televised final 2 ONLY will count towards the teams' scores, and points will only be scored by drivers finishing in the top 10 positions, with points awarded as follows:
1st 12pts 2nd 10 3rd 8 4th 7 5th 6 6th 5 7th 4 8th 3 9th 2 10th 1
Clearly, having two drivers in each class offers the optimum potential for maximum points. If a team has one driver in mini, one in Jnr and 4 in snr, a maximum of 61 points can be scored. With two drivers in each, 66 points is the maximum.
There will be NO dropped scores..... each driver's points total will count towards the total team score at the end of the season, meaning that someone winning the championship prior to the last televised race of the season may still need to race in order to help the team win the championship. With only the top 10 finishing positions scoring, it leaves open the possibility of zero scores for a team at any time, which should leave the championship wide open for the longest possible time.
Each team may nominate ONE driver at one round during the season as a "Joker". This can be done at any time by email to me PRIOR to the race weekend. This driver scores double points at that round. The information about "Jokers" will remain confidential until the televised final is completed. No other teams will be aware whether jokers are being played by other teams, or which drivers have been nominated.
A graphic at the end of each programme will show the Team Championship Points Table, and each team can provide a team logo to be included in this graphic.
The intention is to provide an extra bit of competition, fun, interest and banter for the teams. There will be a very nice trophy on offer to the winning team at the end of the season, as the "Super 1 Rotax Max Championship Team of the Year".... a nice tag line for your karting magazine advert and website when recruiting new drivers!
An entry form will appear on the Super 1 website in due course. Entry for each team is free. The information about each team and their nominated drivers will be posted on here prior to the championship starting, together with any "transfers" in and out.
There may be some tweaks to these rules, but these are the basics.
