The software can't actually know what the distance covered is from the data that it has got. There's nothing to tell it how much of the lap has been covered at any particular time. Car data loggers are the same, and use the wheel-speed sensor to work out the distance covered.

There's a possible workaround. If you're not seeing too much clutch slip or loads of wheel slip, you may be able to set up a math channel to calculate distance. Been meaning to have a play with this for ages, so might just get it doen and let you know if it works.
