Ian,

We had a session in the wet on Wednesday, and I put a waterproof cushion, 1.5" thick, behind his back. He spun a lot (but stayed on the track).

I took away the cushion and he spun less.

I put the cushion under his rear and he spun even less.

This is not an exact science, as he was less experienced in the rain in the first session than he was in the last. Nevertheless, I feel fairly confident about the cushion/no cushion in the back and will continue to experiment with cushion/no cushion under his rear (in the dry as well).
