I agree with you that the focus should be on the driver. There are a couple of points from earlier posts in this thread that may have gotten lost in the sheer amount of replys:

- I can't test the Cadet, so I have no idea if it is okay or rubbish. To get an okay set-up I need to ask questions to adults as the driver can't answer them.

- I pilot a Rotax Max, and will learn from you guys and test things out on the Rotax prior to doing anything to the Cadet.

- We are not doing things if it isn't fun. In order to get good at something, you have to like it, thus the Cadet pilot needs to have fun while learning. We practice on driving techniques and talk about the ideal lines, but only up to the point where it almost becomes boring.

I also agree with you about the hysteria surrounding the kart and equipment, with people spending a fortune without being able to prove any results from their spendings. We are not amoungst them, racing an older chassis and engine. Once the kart or equipment becomes the limiting factor, and not the pilot, we will think about upgrading.
