The guy I've been working with on setup and driving told me not to lock the wheels, but to try to get as close as I can without actually doing so. He's found me 1.5 seconds so far, so I'll live with his advice. If I can't find the last 0.6 I'll try locking them again, but I think I know where it's going to come from.
50 mm vs. 30 mm isn't quite as bad as mag wheels, but I think the weight saving makes more difference than the dynamics unless grip levels are really high. The vibration was probably torsional. A 50 mm axle is many times torsionally stiffer than a 30 mm axle. But then it's a lot stiffer in bending too. Who knows? I think the 50 mm vs. 30 mm thing is made out to be more of a deal than it really is.
Traxtar, I was rude to you in an earlier thread, and I'm sorry. You DID give me some good advice, which was test, test, test. It has been an education, but I needed someone at the track with me to try things. It's somehow better when I don't know what to expect from a setup change.
