Liam,
Completely agreed with the quoted rules but in this instance do not agree with your last line. Reason being that, as I mentioned, the race had just started and the line of karts on the right are nose to tail. That means that there is no gap that you could be going for as there is'nt one that exists. Because there is no gap then you may have half a kart ahead of one kart but must be half a kart behind another. Therefore based on the rules...it's not allowed.

Forgeting the rule book for a second, these were not racing moves they were pure and simple lunges and hope.
