Why is it cheating? In hot conditions, especially when many classes of kart are now shedding soft sticky rubber, it is the only way for novice cadets to remain anywhere near the pace. Try walking in wellies covered in thick mud and see how much it slows you down and how the more you have the more you pick up.

It's relative to the conditions and the kart, but I've seen the field spread increase by more than 3 seconds a lap once the rubber starts to build on tyres.

The more experienced drivers who can stay on line and can set up their karts to drive around the problem benefit and everyone else suffers. Another stupid rule, bought in by people who have no idea of the reality of the sport.
