"So some people seem unsatisfied with the service given by the MSA? And they're even daring to discuss it in public forums?"

The MSA doesn't seem worried about discussion in public forums. What it objects to, not unreasonably, is prejudice, inaccuracy and insult replacing discussion.

Many karters do not seem to worry about the truth of what they say, they just go ahead and say nonsense. Nor does it matter if they are shown to be wrong, they find someone who will believe them and keep repeating the lies and rumour until it is accepted as 'truth'.

" Could be to actually answer the query openly and potentially come up with a solution".

Sometimes people won't accept answers or won't understand why the answer they are given isn't the answer that they want.

For example, the MSA have said in their article that forums and social websites are not the place to raise complaints or to respond to complaints. One reason is that these sort of complaints come up regularly, there are many 'karting' sites, many social sites and they do not have the manpower to monitor all of them. So it is not unreasonable of them to point out that there is a procedure for getting complaints into the MSA and a procedure for them to announce how they are dealing with the complaints.

Nor for them to accept that many of the complaints they get are inaccurate. If they get a complaint that is wrong, is it better to reply to the individual privately or is it better to tell that person through a public forum that they were wrong.

Even on this site there are several threads, each complaining about some aspect or decision of the MSA.

Some of those decisions were taken as a result of the call for comments to the White and green papers on karting, the opportunity for karters to put their dearest wish to the MSA. One of the most popular wishes was for the MSA to enforce the rules on kerb-riding and contact driving.

They published the questions, they published the answers, how many times and in how many places should they do that?

Yet from this forum alone you would think that they had suddenly started attacking 'karting' by informing CoCs and Stewards that they were to address the problem or for CoCs and Stewards to tell people that it was going to be addressed at that meeting. ( And, yes, this was a logical way of doing things because they could not guarantee that everyone would read a website or e-mail or letter.)

"BAN THEM ALL! Scare them into silence."

Almost every regulatory body has a rule that says if you bring the activity into disrepute, there are punishments. Football, rugby, cricket all have them, why should motorsport be any different? And yes, regularly slagging off the regulatory body without making any attempt to 'help' it brings a sport into disrepute.

This is no different from dealing with Hamilton's "Is it cos I'm black" remark, nor is it much different from the way in which every F1 driver appears at an interview with a PR specialist at hand. As a driver one might recognise the frustration and humour in Hamilton's words but not everyone is a driver, not everyone has been through the frustration of a bad race, a bad series of races and strictly speaking, if one person out of the several billion who either heard or heard about the remark made a complaint of being offended, it would have become actionable.

An F1 driver being investigated by the police for inciting racial hatred is hardly bringing the sport into repute. By taking action, by being seen to have standards, the sport protects itself.

No, the MSA are not scared of reasonable discussions between those in the sport, what they are objecting to is the unreasonable discussion, the incorrect conclusion and the abuse that social sites have become renown for. It's not just about MSA decisions either. Do we want some young driver committing suicide because of cyber bullying...or some parent getting death threats because his child is too successful and others in the sport being implicated?
