Hi GR2
Going by Clay Pigeon Kart Clubs experience over the last three seasons, this is not an easy question.
I believe it starts in Senior Max, where the weight limit is 162kgs. You have young drivers who struggle to make 162kgs because they are around 85kgs themselves, so they are not as competitive in senior so they go 177.
Unfortunately, some of them them come with the senior max mentality and its like dodgem cars.
The older driver who will never make 162kgs was getting bumped and bashed and felt they never had a chance of winning, so they asked for a Masters class, over 40 and 177kgs.
We tried to accomodate the two groups in a split grid, but it didn't work and in the end the majority of the 177 drivers moved on, what was annoying was that a lot of the people who shouted for the Masters also moved on, so our grid shrunk to less than ten 177 and masters combined from around 26 on a good grid the previous years.
It also didn't help that we had a ex masters world champion racing, so the really quick boys moved away because they could not win against him.
Last year was good clean racing, we have drivers who could run in senior max but dont want to be involved in the bumping etc so they go Masters.
Last Sunday we had 16 on the grid, a good mix of 177 and Masters with about 4 novices. It was good clean fun racing. We all have to work on the monday morning and no one wants to have to buy a new chassis because of some idiot who wants to win at all costs.
