Have had some interesting discussions recently with some other parents who have kids with varying degrees of good sporting talent, from golf, swimming and rugby to cycling, atheletics and of course karting.
Given that you have a 9/10/11/12 year old who shows promise in a certain sport, we've debated how much you would need in the bank to embark on a serious career progression towards the pinnacle of whichever sport you chose. I'm not talking about a weekend hobby, but a proper pushy parent doing everything that's required tp get their child to the top. In most sport's this means seriously early starts 7 days a week for practice and training, concentration on diet and nutrition along with good coaching etc. etc. Only the latter is usually really expensive.
But with karting everything is about money, my input to this discussion is that to avoid disapointment later, you would need at least 2 million in the bank or the equivalent in regular income to consider a high level sports career path for your child through karting.
Am I missing something, but in a sport with so much money at a high level, isn't it time a larger slice of the gene pool was looked at for stars of the future?
