I tend to stay clear of these sort of threads as they can drag you into a never ending argument, but in this case I couldn't resist.
It appears to me that Alex was only after a bit of friendly advice to further his driving, and possibly progress in the future from arrive and drive to owner/Club level karting and if this is the kind of response he gets from the karting fraternity I wouldn't blame him for sticking two fingers up.
Back to the original question, I would suggest getting down to your local track as often as you can to watch and ask the drivers there who are the quickest (and check their lap times first, not just who 'says' they are quick) for some advice. Spend as much time as you can watching from all around the circuit, and take some notes on technique - braking points, kart position approaching a corner/exiting, where they are picking up the throttle etc. Even better, take some video if you can. Next time out make sure you go over what you learnt before you go out again and set your self some basic improvements to focus on. Lastly, enjoy it.
Good luck.
Steve.
