Given that people learn in different ways ie shown, hands on, from a book etc a mix of all those would probably be needed.

As a relative newbie karting dad I found it quite a struggle to get to grips with all the stuff I needed to know. This is despite the fact that I've been rebuilding bikes and cars since I was 12 years old so not unfamiliar with spanners.

It would really have helped me if our local club had run a mentor scheme and put me in touch with a more experienced person who ran the same class that could advise and guide as needed.

Sure it possible to ask on the net but 2 problems here.
1) You will generally get conflicting advice and often info overload. You then get paralisis by analysis
2) In order to ask a question you first have to know that you dont know something. ie, strapping ignition wires to coil on a tkm to stop vibration snapping the connectors. Not signing on for race day before finishing practice on the saturday etc etc etc.
The mentor doesn't need to be an expert, just someone with basic experience that can put things in simple terms.
Wouldn't take much for clubs to set this sort of system up but I think wiould help considerably in keeping the newbie in karting for that critical first year
