Transponder problem

Hi - Hope you can help - I bought an old style transponder which was holding a 3-4 day charge. The first time I charged it, there was no red light for about an hour, then this cam on and i left it overnight and got 3/4 green flashes.
Not had to use it for a couple of weeks, put it on last night, no red light, left it to charge. This morning I checked, all i get is a flashed red light, and when its in the cradle no lights at all
Any ideas or is the battery shot?
