The current site format is ok, but for me personally it is used mainly due to the number of people and topics on the site rather than the site itself.
Things that annoy (me):
1. The most active topics can (and frequently do) get pushed off the first page meaning threads rarely remain active for more than a few days. This reduces the number of potential answers to a given question as many will not see the topic.
2. Having to click on the next post rather than just displaying all at once. Seriously, what is the point in this? I could maybe understand it if it was an attmept to save bandwidth if the forum supported embedded images and videos but it does not. Definately the most annoying feature!
3. Why give each reply a sub-heading and then re-shuffle the replies so the most recent are NOT at the bottom? People then start adding their own sub-heading just to make their post stand out, and it all becomes rather disjointed frankly.
4. No embedded pictures or videos, and also no hyperlinking. This is not annoying as such but it is a feature used in almost every forum currently used anywhere on the internet. The only one I have ever come across is blatchat.com (a Caterham 7 forum).
I'm not sure if there's a link here, and appologies to anyone offended as I know people will put a lot of time and effort into maintaining the site, but is this not just people being stuck in their ways? Why not implement these "new" features as it's hardly cutting edge technology, and would allow better sharing of knowledge?
For an example of what I'm talking about see: http://www.ekartingnews.com/viewtopic.php?t=100436 Wouldn't it have been nice to have linked to that so you don't have to copy and paste?
If karting is trying to attract newcomers then very often the first point of contact is the most popular internet forum and first impressions matter! I know I wasn't impressed... However, rather than just complainging I am trying to help. It would not be difficult to use freely available open source forum software such as this to power the forum: http://www.phpbb.com (VERY commonly used)
And in case anyone is actually interested in progressing the site and wants to see a sample it could look something like this using an older version of that software: http://www.scottishelises.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=17786&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a
