Tom, I have never run with a team and never would. Like the vast majority of people in this sport, maintaining the kart is as much if not more fun than driving it. So, as a number of others have said, drop the team and do it yourself.
o Formula TKM is way cheaper than the max classes to buy and run.
o Go non MSA, you'll have less compliance issues and no need for comp licences etc...
o If you're buying a rig, get a retirement sale from eBay or the classifieds here. You'll get loads of spares and tools etc... that would cost you a lot more to buy new.
o Have your dad fit a towbar to your roadcar and pick up a cheap trailer on eBay to haul your kart to the race events.
o Cut out testing. It saves testing fees, tyres and equipment wear and tear.
o Get on to Amazon and buy yourself some books on two stroke racing engines and kart chassis set up.
Budget racing is perfectly possible, most of us do it. We don't do it under a team awning, that's all.
Good luck and keep your spirits and passion up.
