TKM is a great class. Great value for money, close racing, very easy to setup (in terms of carbs etc.) Engines are very closely matched especially if you invest from new. I'm not sure about the earlier comment 'JTKM engines are cheaper to by but don't last as long' I have held onto the same engines for 5 years and they've always been as good as any others I've tried. I have no experience in Rotax, so its hard to comment, but from what I hear, there are some engines that are simply better than others and you need to pay a considerable amount to get a proven one. If you buy a JTKM engine brand new and get it fiched by a respected engine builder that's the only engine you'll need to be competetive.

The new tyres offer great grip and still provide that grip for 2-3 meetings.

Over the years TKM has seen a lot of changes. It used to be a massive class, sadly its not as competetive as it was 10 years ago. In my opinion, there are a lot of cadet dads who wouldnt even consider TKM because its deemed a budget class. You've only got to look down the Rotax grids to see the amount of money floating around (12 year olds with £1k+ paint jobs etc. etc.) Previously, TKM karts were different from others because of the lack of grip in the tyres, but now the karts are 'normal' the same karts used in Rotax. But I can't help but feel there is still a stigma associated with the class which purely boils down to a bit of snobbery.

Its great to know that people are still considering moving into the class. Its a great class with fantastic racing and delivers good value for money. What more can you ask for?
