The stiffness of an axle in BENDING is governed the YOUNGS modulus and the geometry of the axle.

The stiffness of an axle in TORSION is governed by the SHEAR modulus and the geometry of the axle.

Go on google and find the shear modulus (often quoted under G) for a wide range of steels.

You should come to the conclusion that the material properties can affect the torsional stiffness by somewhere in the region of about 25%.

THINK about what happens to the axle as you enter the corner.

THINK about what happens to the axle as you exit the corner.
