The NKRA has asked for support for two other classes than teh six it currently supports.
One was TKM and one was Rotax 177.
In order for a class to be supported it has to be able to show that in at least one Area, it can produce a minimum grid of 10 drivers and ideally that at least 10 should show up for the Grande Final. (of the 30 Rotax drivers invited to the GF last year, only 5 showed up.)
In both cases, there was no-one prepared to state that they would support the class. It may be the old problem of "I'm not going to support that until I know that other people are supporting it" but it appears that in order to run this as a National Championship, and it is a National Championship, the MSA committee wants a prediction of how many will attend, backed up by stats of how many attended last year. (At least they will accept numbers committed to attend in the case of a new class).
I don't know whether you could participate this year as a Max (can you run a 177 in Max races?) and get an invite to the GF. If enough people did so then the NKRA could probably award a 177 class trophy within Maxes in the same way as they award a Masters or Heavyweight trophy for the Blues. Or, if enough Maxes were 177 they could approach the MSA for special permission to change the Championship.
But, if you are really interested, why not whip up some support amongst the 177 drivers and put forward a list of names willing to commit? I'd send it to the NKRA secretary....or contact my area rep.
