The Sony Alpha series are alot cheaper than Canons and Nikons. If you are just shooting for fun or getting to know how to use a DSLR then they are fine. I spent under 500 quid on mine for the camera, two lenses including a 70-300 zoom. I have had some good results with mine. Not to take anything away from nikons and Canons, they are pretty awesome, but it depends on what you're after, no what i'm say'n!
