This completely ignores the lateral effect that weight has on cornering. Yes, more weight gives you more grip, but the point is really that the heavier you are, the more grip you need because the side force on the tyre is higher for a given corner speed (proportional to the mass times velocity squared!).

Coupled with the fact that the kart is slower to accelerate and slower to slow down means that more weight should NOT make you faster!!!
