Buy the cheapest cola available, take the end can off the exhaust, submerge the body of the exhaust in a container large enough to fully cover it and soak for 60-90 minutes , drain off exhaust, empty container, refill with fresh coke and leave over night.
After second soaking, remove from container, allow to drip dry, wire wool outer exhaust to remove any residue.

Safer than caustic, but puts you off drinking cola ever again!
Results are great...
