While it isn't a race kart as such a few people in the British Historic Kart Club have fun or grass karts. I didn't speak to the owner but there was a nice one at Shenington this year with Nylite wheels fitted which sound the same as yours.
As for the tyres it depends on what size the wheels are. If they are 4" they are quite rare, 5" ones aren't so bad. I'm trying to get hold of some treaded tyres for my very early 1960's kart, I will let you know if I find any.
