If you have spaced your seat at a specific height do you need to maintain that height when moving the seat backwards and forwards?

I drilled mine so that with the correct spacers it meant that I maintained the same seat height regardless of whether the seat moved forwards or backwards.

My reasoning was that by doing that (and it took a lot of time and experimentation on my jig in my shed) it removed a variable and kept things the same so if it changed anything I knew it was down to weight distribution and not that and my seat height combined.
