I am surprised no one has answered you yet. A loose core will definitely affect the engine and will be able to draw air into the cylinder. Throw it away or return it to the shop if it is brand new. The loose core is caused by the sealing ring failing. Have a look at the piston crown to make sure it has not done any damage. The blueing is probably the result of the charge blowing past the porcelain. It is unlikely that any of the sealing ring found its way into the chamber but it would be prudent to pop the head off and check over the engine and check the piston and conrod. If you are unsure on what you may be looking for, re ask.
