the profile of the lecont tyre was altered at the start of the year (they're alot more "curved" than they use to be).
the result of it is that cornering speeds have been increased massively with one top driver claiming they were worth 1 second a lap over the old tyre design round larkhall at the 0 plate earlier on this year. indeed lap records have been broken at many tracks over the last couple of months because of this new tyre design.
due to the extra grip available and the fact that when in race trim they are not much faster than a tkm in at straight line, the drivers (must stress at this point it's more of a problem in Juniors than Seniors) are taking more "ambitious" dives on their competitors, make contact and wham. there was a horrific crash at the 0 plate in juniors on lap 1 which was down to this.
KF shouldn't suffer from this issue as much due to the higher speeds and the general higher driving standard of the class.
