Has anyone else realised that there has been a fundamental oversight by the Stars Committee with regard to allocating points for Timed Qualifying?
I will explain.
This applies to when there are two Timed Qualifying sessions.
The SRs state that the fastest 12 in each group go up to the final. This is because the weather and track conditions could be different. That's fair. That's fine. Why, then, do they allocate points to the fastest 3 overall, obviously NOT taking into account the weather and track conditions? This is totally unfair.
This weekend proves my point exactly. For Mini Max Quali A it rained, for Quali B it was dry. Quali A drivers were approximately 5 seconds per lap slower then Quali B drivers, PURELY DUE TO THE RAIN. The fastest 3 overall, though, got the points. This means that in the Grand Final, P1 has 10 points - P2 has none, P3 has 5 points - P4 has none, P5 has 3 points - P6 has none. Surely a fairer way would be to give the fastest 3 in EACH session points, therefore both drivers in the first row in the Grand Final would have 10 points, the second row would have 5 points each and the third row would have 3 points each.
This could affect everybody, so it would be good to see if anyone else feels strongly about it like me.
