Hi dad 66,
You don't say which cadet class the question is aimed at, but basic principles apply to all.
Depending on the weather, temperature, length of event and carb settings, the type of plug fitted can influence engine temperature.
We run WTP, use Denso plugs and fit the following to keep engine temperature within best limits:
Iw 24: For cold conditions. Iw 27: For normal conditions (the one we use most) Iw 31: For really hot conditions, or when for some other reason, engine temperature rises above safe limits.
The runnning temperature of a plug is mainly controlled by the length of the centre insulator (looking from the electrode end). Shorter insulators offer an easier path for heat to conduct away from the tip, longer insulators keep the heat in the tip and are more suited to cold running conditions.
These are the basics, you can find detailed information on Websites for whatever plug you happen to have fitted.
Welcome to karting.
Hope this helps.
Dave.
