Timed qualifying may lead to fewer melees at the first or subsequent corners but I still feel that safety is a poor arguement for it. The problem is not the relative speed of the drivers (how often have you heard that excuse, lol) it's their attitude to it.

Anyway, how many people recently commented that the random heats format was what made UK drivers more proficient in Europe?

Timed qualifying may have it's place in major (eg National) competitons but I'm not sure about club level.
