THe main reason for having a high back seat in gearbox karts is not safety but to support the neck from the cornering and acceleration forces in normal racing.
On the few occassions I have rolled my 250 the seat back has normally snapped off if it has come in to contact with the ground. Generally my head has taken the brunt of te load. If you think about it to save you in a roll the head rest must be about three to four inches higher than the helmet, so forget roll protection
