As a retired lobster fisherman I can see how they can make them for a fiver,they are injection moulded.The toggles that you use to connect the lobster pot to the main rope are made in the same way.Some of the big lobster boats can put up to 5 ton of pull pressure on these before they break.In fact the rope normally snaps first.
