I have had various rib protectors since moving from Pro-karts to Rotax's (as an endurance racer with a 9 litre tank, we often do 1 hour + stints). The best by some margin (That I have used) is the one you have immediately eliminated, namely the P1. Yes it's expensive, but it really is probably the most important piece of safety gear you wear (helmet notwithstanding!). Bearing in mind how expensive it is to get to a race, it's easily justifiable over a few seasons... And it's christmas soon!
