If you've still got the Max, then you're probably best off sticking with that for now. Its by far and away the most popular class in the country still.

In terms of chassis, depending on how old yours is, you may still be able to use it. If so, I would enter one or two meetings to get back into it with what you've got. If its not, or you want to upgrade now, then among the better chassis for Max are the Gillard 010B and the Kosmic. You'll probably get plenty of other recommendations from other people. Its really a matter of personal taste.
