QuickOldTimer - you are obviuosly very experienced and will know the following situation quite well. I am following another kart around the circuit, I'm quicker in the twisty bits and, come to the straight, pull right up on the rear bumper of the lead kart. I get a good exit out of the last corner, a pull up the straigh and out brake the lead kart into the first corner. Next lap I lead and get a reasonable exit from the last corner onto the straight. At the end of the straight the kart I am racing is almost alongside me and I see that my revs are down by a couple of hundred rpm. WHY?? Simply that the wind is blowing against me and I'm now making the hole in the wind that the other kart was making for me - Who is the fastest driver / kart?? Who should win the race?? The simple answer is the driver with the best kart / skills / RACE CRAFT combination. I must now realise that I will be towed down the straight and overtaken every other lap unless I do something to prevent it. I drive slightly different lines in order to remain in front on the straight, and then make a break on the twisty bits to break the tow. I can then resume my previous race lines. This is not cheating, this IS using race craft, your brain and your equipment to its best ability to achieve the best posssible result.
