Go back to the late 90's and see what some of us were saying about the new classes (Rotax Max) at the time. The rising costs were widely predicted. If you want cheap, fair racing you have to go back to basics.

Simple chassis, no caster/camber adjustment, no torsion bars, hard tyres, simple air-cooled 2 stroke engines, simple rev counter/lap timer only etc. Leave the faster more complex karts to the people with the money. Remember, a complete TKM kart was cheaper than a rolling chassis for Rotax.

Rotax made it so that the classes the club drivers were running were similar enough to the CIK classes that the big spenders started migrating into club classes. The big spenders are racing 48 weekends per year, 3 days per week. Regardless of equipment, you can't compete with that; let alone the massive benefit of running within a team. This mix of demographics is what killed club level karting.

Lastly, don't believe the rumours about what the front runners are spending and what they're spending it on. And remember, cadets has always been a bit of a basket case.
